On Tuesday July 19, at 1740 hours, Battalion Three was dispatched for a building fire at 1298 Hurffville Road in the Almonesson Section of Deptford. On arrival of the first arriving crew a 2 story commercial building was found with fire visible from the Alpha Delta corner. The “All Hands” box was struck bringing additional resources including Station 9-2. Ladder 926 responded with four and on their arrival the apparatus was set up on the Delta Division and its crew detailed to Ladder 936 to assist with ventilation on the Bravo Division. Two members from 926 were then detailed to assist with suppression efforts on the Alpha Division. Engine 922 arrived and were detailed to lay a supply line for Ladder 926. The lay was completed with the assistance of Engine 921, (1300′ lay). As crews arrived they were detailed to various tasks. The temperature and humidity were high and this took a toll on the firefighters. The Incident Commander Battalion Chief Jeff Pfeiffer struck the second alarm for manpower. Due to the location of the fire and the construction of the building, it took some time to get to the seat of the fire and additional supply lines were needed. Engine 911 laid a 1200′ supply line to handle the water needs for Tower Ladder 936 on the Alpha Bravo corner. The fire was placed under control and crews remained on location for some time getting to hot spots inside the building.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FROM RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES WHO BROUGHT WATER AND FOOD TO THE FIRE SCENE FOR THE FIREFIGHTERS. YOUR GENEROSITY DID NOT GO UN-NOTICED AND WAS VERY APPRECIATED.
