On Tuesday July 3, 2018 at approximately 1750 hours, a severe strong thunderstorm rolled in the area bringing high winds, heavy rain, and lots of lightning strikes. Almost immediately the calls started coming in for large trees down into houses, trees blocking roads, large tree branches bringing wires down, flash flooding, primary wires down burning on the roadway, and trees on top of vehicles. The members of Battalion 2 answered 35 calls for service in a 3 1/2 hour period. Assistance was requested and received from the Deptford Department of Public Works to assist with road closures and removal of the larger trees with their large loader. The Deptford Office of Emergency Management to assist with the evaluation of the damaged homes. The Deptford Fire Police to assist with road closures. Through all the damage and incidents, there were no reported injuries to residents. Damage to the area was significant and it will take several days to complete the clean up and recovery.
