On Monday July 17,2019, the region was hit with a fast moving and strong thunderstorm. The storm brought with it high winds, heavy rains and lightning. The first call for service for Duty Engine 923 was received for a tree down on First Avenue, immediately followed by wire down calls on Sycamore Avenue, Good Intent Road, and Hampshire Drive. Battalions 3 and 2 were then dispatched for a Building Fire at the BJ Warehouse store on Deptford Center Road. Crews arrived to find a smoke haze inside the building. Engine 23’s crew was detail to Division one and Squad 921 crew was detailed to Ladder 936 and to the roof to investigate the roof top ventilation units and the HVAC. Interior crews also investigated the RTU and the HVAC in the area of the smoke haze. Crews isolated two roof top units and ventilated the smoke. As crews were taking up, the Target Store, reported a smoke odor inside their store. Crews investigated finding the smoke odor and narrowed it down to the electrical transfer switch for the backup generator. Electricians were called for both facilitates and the crews went available. As crews were departing from Deptford Center Road, an audible alarm was found at the AT&T Store on Hurffville Road. Investigation found that the alarm was for a pumping station and not a fire alarm. All Crews went available.
