On Thursday February 8, 2018 shortly after 5 am, the Woodbury Fire Department was dispatched to 663 Mantua Avenue (Barlow Buick/GMC) for a structure fire. Chief 501 (Gartner) arrived to find a car dealership service facility with heavy black smoke coming from the building. Chief Gartner struck the all hands, bringing additional resources and during Tower 926’s response, Chief Gartner struck the 2nd alarm. Tower 926 arrived and were detailed to the B/C corner of the structure and set up. The construction of the building was already compromised with the wall having moved and smoke pouring out of the cracks in the wall. A collapse zone was established and water supplies were being established for Tower 926 at its set up position and Ladder 516 on the delta side of the building. Forcible entry was made into the structure finding a vehicle well involved inside the service area with extensions. Tower 926 crew was split into the suppression group and a group for the tower at roof operations. Tower 926 went into service with a bucket monitor when fire presented itself through a large exhaust fan in the center of the roof. Once the inside fire was extinguished and smoke cleared. A roof group was established with members from Tower 926, Mantua FD and Thorofare FD and this group started cutting and removing the roof membrane to extinguish the remaining fire which transmitted to these areas through vent pipe openings in construction. Tower 926 was released at 1130 hours.
