On June 7, 2016 at 0408 hours, Battalion Two was dispatched to the area of the 600 block of Woodland Avenue for an Investigate Smoke assignment. During the response of Engine 921, the communication center advised that the Deptford Police Department was on location at 619 Woodland Avenue with a house fire. Engine 921 arrived to find a two story wood frame single family dwelling well involved in fire. The All hands box was transmitted, bringing additional resources from the remainder of the Deptford Fire Department and placement of covers. Engine 921 led off with the deck gun and a Blitz Fire 2 1/2″ line for suppression and exposure protection. Engine 922 was advised to spot a fire hydrant and lay into Engine 921. Once Engine 921 ran out of water and awaited the supply line to be charged (800′ away), additional hand lines were stretched. Once the water supply was established crews from the Deptford Fire Department, in a defensive mode, extinguished the fire. There was a partial collapse of the Bravo side and a total collapse of the roof. The fire was placed under control at the 35 minute mark and crews remained on location until 1000 hours.. The fire is under investigation by the Deptford Fire Marshal’s Office, Deptford Police Department, Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s Office and Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
