On Thursday November 19th at 2143 hours, Battalions Two and Three were dispatched to 2401 Shetland Way for a dwelling fire. Reports from the alarm room were that there was a stove fire in one of the apartments Chief 9201 (Thomas) arrived to find a 2 story garden style apartment building with smoke showing from a first floor apartment with residents self evacuating. Further investigation found that Apartment 2401 had a well involved kitchen fire extending into the rest of the apartment. Squad 921 was ordered to lay in from a fire hydrant in front of the 3300 building of Shetland Way. On Their arrival, its crew was to lead off with a 1 3/4 hand line. Engine 911 (running as the township duty engine) was advised to pick up the hydrant 921 laid in from and supply 921. Ladder 936 was ordered to pull in next to Squad 921 and set up and ladder the building. Its crew was detailed to outside ventilation. Tower 926 arrived and was detailed to the “C” division, set up and prepare to ladder the building. The all hands was struck which brought additional resources. As the crews arrived, they were given fire ground tasks to perform. The fire was quickly brought under control with no fire extension from apartment 2401. There were no reported injuries and the fire is under investigation by the Deptford Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.
