On September 18th at 1531 hours, the Deptford Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Tanyard Road and Cattell Road for a Motor Vehicle Crash involving a school bus. Battalion Chief 9501 (Battaglia) arrived and found that a motor vehicle had struck a school bus head on. The driver of the passenger vehicle was heavily entrapped and the bus was full of students. Battalion Chief Battaglia summoned additional BLS units and gave orders to the FD crews (Squad 921, Rescue 938 and Ladder 946) who were arriving to secure the vehicles and start the process to extricate the driver. A lengthy extrication was started removing the doors, the roof, the B Posts and a dash lift, to free the driver. All of the students were being treated in the triage area by EMS personnel. The driver was extricated and turned over to ALS and BLS personnel for transport to a local hospital. The crash is under investigation by the Deptford Police Department.
