On May 24, 2023 the Deptford Fire Department responded to a working dwelling fire on the 1100 block of Broadway. Crews arrived to find a two story wood frame single family dwelling well involved in fire. The crews put out the fire and started with the overhaul and salvage process of the suppression effort and then assisted the Deptford Fire Marshal’s office with the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. During this time, during the overhaul, the crew found a CLOSED DOOR that led to a bedroom on the second floor. When the door was opened it was found that the CLOSED DOOR kept the heat, smoke and fire out of the room. The contents of the room were intact and not destroyed.
The pictures below show the fire damage to the inside of the house and then the pictures show the fire side of the closed door and then the room side of the closed door and then the content of the room.
The lesson here is to close the bedroom door. This is most important when you go to sleep at night.
