On January 9, 2023 during the evening hours, the region was hit with a winter nor’easter storm. The temperature kept the storm as a rain event. The region was hit with high winds gusting to over 50 mile per hour and heavy rain. The calls for service for the Deptford Fire Department starting coming in around 1815 hours. The Deptford Office of Emergency Management (OEM) opened the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and staffed with with personnel from the Deptford Police Department, Deptford Fire Department, Deptford Public Works Department, Deptford MUA, and other essential personnel. All dispatches for the FD and PD go through the EOC once it is opened. Battalion Two responded to multiple calls for trees and wires down through out the local. The Gloucester County Emergency Response Center staged High Water Rescue Vehicles at the Deptford Fire Department’s Warehouse in the Westville Grove Section of Deptford. The Helping Hand Fire Company on Fisher Street opened their doors to the hall for the staff from the high water rescue teams to stage comfortable.
