On December 26, 2021, Battalions Two and Three were dispatched to a residence on Tacoma Boulevard for a Dwelling Fire. Reports were an issue with their fireplace that was causing a lot of smoke. Squad 921 arrived to find a one story single family dwelling with light smoke showing. The residents had evacuated and were reporting a fire inside the walls around their fire place. A quick check with thermal imaging camera found no issue on the outside of the chimney and high heat and smoke from the floor under the firebox and the wall to the left of the fireplace. The crew from 921 quickly secured all the belongings that were on top of the mantle and along side of the fire place before opening up. Tower 926 arrived and its crew was split with one half throwing a ground ladder to the chimney and roof and the other half providing salvage operations with tarps for the first floor belongings. Squad 921’s crew quickly found the seat of the fire and extinguished the fire and a positive pressure fan was set up for ventilation. The interior crews completed the extinguishment and held off on completing the overhaul until the arrival of the Deptford Fire Department Fire Investigation. On his arrival, he started his investigation and advised that the overhaul could be completed. The crews assisted the residents with clean up and then went available. The residents advised that the smoke detectors alerted them to the fire in their home.
